BRAZILIAN JIU-JITSU

Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is a martial art that was first developed in Brazil by the Gracie family during the mid-20th century, it has since developed into a relatively independent system with a large emphasis on ground fighting and grappling. BJJ emphasizes ground fighting techniques and submission holds involving joint locks and chokeholds. The premise is that most of the advantage of a larger, stronger opponent comes from superior reach and more powerful strikes, both of which are largely negated if wrestling on the ground.

ARNIS

Original Filipino self-defense, which basically uses the garote; usually rattan sticks as the main weapon and as extension of the hands to maximize reach and power. The bare hand (which is usually the left) is used as necessary support to the right hand in the absence of another stick or dagger. In other cases or styles, two sticks or swords are used. Otherwise empty hands may also be used as effectively as when there are weapons.

POI SPINNING

Poi is a form of juggling with balls on ropes, held in the hands and swung in various circular patterns, similar to club-twirling. It was originally practiced by the Māori people of New Zealand (the word poi means "ball" in Māori). Women used it as an exercise to increase flexibility of the wrists and hands, and by men to increase strength in the arms and coordination. It developed into a traditional performance art practiced mostly by women.
